President's Message: December 2019

Dear ALCAS members and friends,

Thank you for your continued support for ALCAS. I would like to take this opportunity to let you know that we have two new board members: Richard Haynes and Chalaka Fernando. Richard and Chalaka will be great assets to ALCAS, extending our representation of LCA professionals and (up-and-coming) academics.

We are investigating normalization factors that can be used with the ALCAS Best Practice Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA) characterization factors.

In addition, we are planning a revision of the Best Practice LCIA factors, given that there are new methods to evaluate and the UNEP Life Cycle Initiative has recently released the second volume of their LCIA recommendations. Tim Grant and Stephen Northey will present a webinar on this on .

If you are interested in joining the methodology committee for this revision of the Australian LCIA recommendations, please send an email to info@alcas.asn.au.

This newsletter will be the last one of the series you’ve been used to. From next year, we will be sending out three newsletter per year, each timed to give you an update on the preceding board meeting as well as more general domestic and international LCA news.

In short, ALCAS has plenty of plans for 2020. If you are still thinking about your New Year’s resolutions, consider joining ALCAS as a member if you haven’t already. Your support will allow us to continue to increase awareness, understanding and quality of LCA in Australia.

I wish you a very joyful Christmas if you celebrate this holiday, and a relaxing and safe summer break to all of you!
