Award Winning Innovation uses industrial plastic wastes

Mark Coombe, Director of Fibercon was the proud recipient of the 2016 Award for Most Innovative Engineers

The 2016 Award for Most Innovative Engineers has recognised Mark Coombe, Director of Fibercon for the development of Emesh, a 100% recycled Macro Plastic Fibre Reinforcing made from industrial plastic wastes.

The product of a 3-year PhD program at James Cook University, sponsored by Fibrecon, Emesh can reinforce concrete in footpaths, cycleways, shotcrete and small precast elements.

The process for producing recycled plastic fibres is suitable for large scale commercial production and makes use of the constant source of industrial plastic wastes such as off-cuts and off-specification items, producing a reliable quality.
