Work is now underway to update the Guidelines for National Greenhouse Inventories which the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released in 2006. Around one hundred scientists from around the world, including former ALCAS President Greg Peters, will gather in Zimbabwe in September to continue working on the refinement of the methodology.
The main function of the Guidelines is to assist the compilation of emissions data for the IPCC's Assessment Reports on the changing climate. The Guidelines are also an important source of information for many in the LCA community, providing a global consensus on how to estimate emissions from a wide range of sources.
The outcomes of this work will be available in 2019.
