Australian LCA Professionals recognised at Academy Awards

September 11, 2019

The Awards of the International Life Cycle Academy are given to honour contributions of outstanding quality, within the last two years, within the field of quantitative sustainability assessment. Equal weight is given to scientific content and application/communication.

Australian LCA professionals fared particularly well in this year’s awards with two locals being short-listed.

ALCAS member Brad Ridoutt and colleagues were recognised in the “Best contribution to policy application of LCA” category for their paper on water footprinting. The paper involved the use of very detailed IO tables and applied a novel LCIA procedure, where the impact assessment was performed at the level of each unit process and then added up over the life cycle.

In the “Best contribution to sustainable production” category, current ALCAS President Maartje Sevenster and co-authors were recognised for their paper on soil organic carbon changes. The paper reported important findings on the uncertainty when applied to LCA of agricultural products.
