Nigel was a founder member and Vice President of the International Initiative for Sustainability in the Built Environment (iiSBE), a founder member of the World Green Building Council, a Vice President of the US Green Building Council and a Director of the Center for Sustainable Construction at BRE in the UK. Now resident in Australia, he is working with academia, industry and government to develop a Life Cycle approach to rating and eco-labelling building products and materials in Australasia, and developing LCA-based design tools.
A chemical engineer with a PhD on contaminant fate, Gre
g worked for seven years in environmental policy, impact assessment and strategic planning for Sydney Water. He was a member of the Drought Expert Panel and led Sydney Water’s LCA efforts. As Sustainability Assessment Program Manager in the Water Research Centre at UNSW, he manages LCA research, carbon footprinting and contaminant fate analysis for industrial clients. He is also supported by government grants for improving ecological footprint calculation and sustainability frameworks
A director of Technical, Promotion & Consulting Solutions Pty Ltd in Melbourne, Alastair holds a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from Swinburne University and a Doctorate from Monash University. He held a number of senior management roles including Council Secretary, General Manager and Acting Executive Director of the Timber Promotion Council of Victoria for 12 years. As well as his role of secretary of ALCAS, he is on the AusLCI National Inventory Database Steering Committee and the advisory committee of the CSIRO Timber Life Cycle Inventory Project.
An environmental engineer with a Masters degree in sustainable energy, Lisa has worked in the field of environmental consultancy for almost 7 years. Lisa continues to refine her LCA skills developed in spending 2.5 years with the Life Cycle Assessment team at RMIT University’s Centre for Design. As well as her role as treasurer of ALCAS Lisa is furthering her knowledge in commodity trading through a technical analysis course accredited by the Financial Services Institute of Australia (FINSIA).
Tim has 12 years experience developing and applying LCA with a wide range of companies and organisations across Australia and the Asia Pacific region. He was the founding President of ALCAS and is the Director of Life Cycle Strategies, an Adjunct Researcher at RMIT Centre for Design and Adjunct Research Fellow with CSIRO division of Marine and Atmospheric Research. Tim is involved extensively in the Australian Life Cycle Inventory project (AusLCI) and prior to working in LCA he worked in waste management consulting and in process engineering with CSIRO.
A Doctorate-qualified environmental engineer, Sean has extensive experience in the UK nuclear energy and municipal solid waste treatment sectors, integrating LCA within socially intelligent decision-making frameworks. He now works for the Environmental Protection Authority Victoria where he is responsible for the development, integration, and application of LCA, Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA) and stakeholder consultation within EPA’s key statutory and strategic frameworks. Sean is the Secretariat for the Australian Life Cycle Inventory (AusLCI) Initiative, Secretary of the AusLCI Technical Coordination Group and a visiting lecturer at Melbourne University.
Rob is a senior LCA consultant at Energetics who previously worked at the RMIT University’s Centre for Design. With an environmental engineering background (University of Practical Education West-Brabant, 1997) he has been working as an LCA expert for over ten years. Originally from the Netherlands, Rob has considerable experience with the application of life cycle thinking, particularly related to the construction industry and construction materials. He is currently involved in a number of AusLCI committees and is a GreenStar accredited professional.
Andrew is the Program Director for Life Cycle Assessment at the Centre for Design at RMIT. He has completed a Bachelor of Economics (Monash University), Bachelor of Engineering – Mechanical (Monash University) and a Masters of Engineering – Sustainable Energy (RMIT). His professional background includes experience in automotive engineering in the local car industry, corporate finance in New York and LCA consulting to both industry and government. As Program Director he coordinates a team of LCA professionals undertaking a wide range of LCA teaching and consulting activities, including professional and university level course delivery.
Nawshad is working as a Research Scientist on life cycle assessment (LCA) and techno-economic evaluation in the Process Science and Engineering Divison of CSIRO. Nawshad is currently part of a team, investigating at the application of biomass in steel making to reduce environmental impact within CSIRO Minerals Down Under Flagship. He commenced work as a Materials Scientist at Scion (New Zealand Forest Research Institute) after completing his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Sydney in 2002. Nawshad has more than 10 year’s research experience with timber drying technology, process modelling and optimisation and with LCA of mining and mineral industries.
